Award with a twisted tag
Posted by Pepper on November 13, 2011
Stuti presented me with this award more than a month ago. This award, like most other awards comes with a tag. The “tell me about yourself” tag.
I have done these tags way too many times. The last one was wasn’t even done too long ago. So I really didn’t want to ramble about myself anymore. I kept thinking of a way in which I could give it a twist. Finally, I thought of writing about Mint instead of myself. I write about him on this blog so often, I thought it made sense to focus the spotlight on him this one time and give people a chance to get to know him better.
So here we go. The rule is to state 7 facts about yourself. Like I said, I am twisting it to my convenience and writing about Mint instead. As usual, I’ve tried getting as random as I can.
1) He loves mustard seeds. If I am cooking, I make it a point to add in an extra spoonful of mustard just for him. It’s a joy watching him pick out the mustard from the gravy and eat it with relish.
2) He keeps pulling out the skin from the sides of his nails. He is so addicted to it, it gets me really mad. He has been doing it for years. You can see patches of torn skin around his thumbs. Each time I see him pulling out the skin, I give him a thwack and ask him to stop. He says “sorry” and lets go. Only to do it again without realising it in the next few minutes. It really worries me and I don’t know what to do.
3) He is incapable of taking a shower that lasts lesser than 30 minutes. Every morning is a mad rush because he refuses to come out of his shower. He will skip breakfast and will run to the car, but he won’t shorten his shower time. Not even by 2 minutes. He says hot water pelting his face and body for a long time is the only thing that truly wakes him up.
4) If a driver in another car slows down for his sake or allows him to change or enter into a new lane, he makes it a point to raise his hand and signal a “Thank you”. Every single time. It’s something I forget to do if I am driving at times.
5) He will spend hours organising the book shelf in an alphabetical order. He will hang (and wear) his jackets and sweatshirts in a particular order that follows a pattern chosen by him. Considering how messy and unorganised he is in general, such organised behaviour of his confuses me.
6) He has the most perfect feet I have ever seen. The shape of his toes is ideal and they can’t be more aligned. I even told my MIL this time, that I think he has amazing feet and I am quite crazy about them. She just laughed.
7) He eats just about anything. Really, I have experimented. Place any kind of food in front of him, and his reaction is to pick it up and put it in his mouth. It may or may not be edible by normal standards, example, raw potato, freshly kneaded dough, etc. It doesn’t matter. Just place any kind of food in front of him and watch.
8 ) He has been arrested once, for over speeding. Not just ticketed, but arrested.
There. Done. I was supposed to write 7 points. I dislike that number, so I wrote 8. The other part of the award says I need to tag 15 other people. I am not going to do that. But it would be fun if you take it up and write about your partner if you have one. We have the entire blog revolving around us. The partners are often overshadowed and don’t get their share of limelight. I would love to know more about your other halves. If you do take this up, leave me the link in the comment section and I will follow you.

1) Oh wow! And I thought it was just me who had these weird habits!!!
2) Ha ha ha….your comment reminded me of a very dear friend of mine….who just cannot stop biting his nails. I thwack him
to no effect
4) Wow!! That’s a lot of respect. And patience.
6) I m sure your MIL must have been delighted about this
Anything she creates perfect is a compliment to her right?
And BTW you have a foot fetish eh?
7) Arrested for overspeeding?
I’m scared to ask what speed was he going at !! And why?
Pepper said
In response to point 6 – foot fetish? If that involves kinky stuff, then no, I don’t.
point 7 – He was going about 20-30 miles over speed limit. Why? Because the highway was totally empty and because he was an idiot, one who had just stepped out of grad school.
Ashwathy said
And I was actually first
Yay!!
With comment moderation, there’s no way of finding out till the end!
Pepper said
Haha, you’re right. A lot of times people believe they are first and it breaks my heart to let them know they’re not. Lol.
R's Mom said
1) R hates mustard seeds heeheh
2) Errr….is he my long lost brother…
3) Errr..and I am incapable of taking a shower that lasts for more than 30 seconds..saach mein
time kiske paas hai boss
4) My dad does that…I think its cute
5) Wow….Pepper..you are my soul sister theek hai
6) And I can say that about RD
7) Me too, R too and RD too…infact the entire R family..from kacha roti ka atta to kacha bhindi
8) Aww…he is such a hero heheeh
Thanks..I loved doing this comment
Pepper said
1) I hated mustard seeds until a few years ago too! In fact, I hated mustard, cumin, curry leaves, coriander and everything else that went in as tadka in Indian cooking.
I thought that made him the villain.
2) You do that too? STOP doing that!
5) I am your soul sister? Or he is your soul brother?
7) Really??
8) Did you say aww and call him a hero cos he was arrested??
Thanks so much for the comment.
Bikram said
He is the MAN and yes saying Thank you or sorry is a sign of a Good human being
hmm organising the book shelf I need some lessons from him i guess ..
and oooops arrested I hope its not on record now .. how long does it stay .. maybe you need to check it out
Pepper said
How long it stays? I thought it stays on record forever.
Bikram said
No it does not , well In UK it does not here its 3 years .. SO you should check and if not taken off then get it removed .. because everytime a check is done it will be flagged and just seeing the police record can go against sometimes even if its jsut a speeding ticket ..
you should be able to call them and give them the crime reference and they should tell you ..
Pepper said
Oh interesting. This happened about 5-6 yrs ago. Should check it out and see if its possible to take it off record. Thanks.
I thought the mistake was committed and it will follow us and haunt us all our life. Lol.

A very interesting twist in the tag
Lol at #7.
Everyone has some quirks and foibles. I want to read a similar take on you by Mint. Would be awesome to read.
Pepper said
If I know him well, he’ll just say “I can’t think of things like that” … Sigh.
Geet said
Hey Pepper.. I have been reading your blogs.. and I have enjoyed reading them.. I am addicted to blogs very recently.. and your blog tops my favourites… I have started to write about my partner.. and will surely post a link here soon.. you and mint make a super couple..my best wishes tp u both..i have a suggestion for your second point.. apply some moisturiser or any bad tasting cream on his thumb..so that as soon as he puts his finger in his mouth he removes it by himself..
Pepper said
Thanks so much Geet!
Oh he doesn’t tear out his skin using his teeth. He just pulls and plucks it out using his hands. So the finger/thumb doesn’t go in the mouth. Anything I can do to make him stop this?

Nice tag peppy….
Pepper said
Your BFF pulls out the skin from the sides of her nails too? I am really looking for a way to make it stop. Nothing seems to work

wow! and arrested for speeding?
Do they do that? I am scared now… I almost always speed (surprisingly haven’t got a ticket yet..touchwood):D
Pepper said
Yes ma’am. They do that., if you overspeed (not just speed). You’ve just been lucky so far, but don’t push it

I loved this twist in the tag Pepper. And those Mint points were really interesting – especially the ‘eats anything’ and shelf organizing. Aha, really?
Arrested for speeding? Was he wearing a ninja mask while driving or something?
I should take this up. Sounds like fun..in fact I wold go on with 18 points, not just 8
Pepper said
When are you going to do it ? I hope you go on till 18

Great idea Pepper, you thought of writing about Mint instead of you.
Ditto on point 3 here. My hubby has a habit of taking bath atleast 2 times in a day and every time the session lasts for more than 20 min. My water bill is thrice the amount compared to the national average. May be I should move to a country where I dont get billed for water consumption.:)
Pepper said
Lol. The water bill must hurt!
neha said
I thought only Bongs can love mustard seeds
. Haha that sometime amaze me the amount of time guys takes to bath and getting dressed up, it’s high time that people just stp stereotyping girls for that
Pepper said
Seriously. They need to stop stereotyping girls!

Looks like its a problem with many men, having a shower for more than 20 – 30 mins. My husband does that, my brother has a shower for 40 long mins. While we hardly have a 40 min shower even if we had six feet hair !
Pepper said
Your husband does that too? So many guys seem to do it ! Mint takes 30 mins only for a regular shower. If he has to wash his hair then he never comes out. I don’t understand how he can take that long to wash that little bit of hair.
Seema said
Loved the twist and knowing more about Mint.
Yayayay to Mint on 4, 5 and 7.
On 2, give him a thwack on my behalf too, will ya? Such habits irk me too big time!
Wanna do this tag and will link back if / when I get around doing it.
Pepper said
Sure. I’ll pass on your thwack!
Please do the tag soon!
Seema said
Hey Pepper, I took up this tag and posted here: http://seemabbas.wordpress.com/2011/12/09/twisted-tag/

Of course I will check it out right away!

I dont like mustard seeds- and I have no clue if hubby likes it!! Time to ask you say? After a dozen years?!!
Err.. I pull out skin from my fingertips and keep getting scolded for that – but its addictive you know…
Hmm… I think he is my soul brother in that
No matter how late, I dont know how to get out of the bathroom sooner than 20mins…
Oh! Hubby does that too and the screaming and name calling when required too! Infact when he says “Thank you” the other person is more surprised!
Hehehe! Thank God! Niether one of us is organised…
Uh, not to boast but I know and others have said that my feet are pretty!
Fooood!Especially fruits go in without any limitations with the hubby…
Thank God! No arrests and since he was driving with the indian license in the US too, he usually did a little over speeding and thank God we never got caught!!
So there – thats a long comment and it was interesting for me to write it
Pepper said
I am most jealous of your pretty feet. I always thought mine are ugly
Nice knowing about the hubby!
I love long comments

Awwww awwww awwww
Total fun to read this post. I am tempted to do a similar tag about the OH too now.
Point no. 4 is so sweet. That’s part of being a good human being.
I can so relate to the not-less-than-30-minutes-shower. That’s what truly wakes me up too. I don’t insist on it every time, but most of the times, end up having a shower that it almost half an hour long. I do end up getting late, but then it is totally worth it.
Pepper said
I love long showers too, but I reserve them for weekends. If I had to pick between 20 mins of extra sleep and extra shower time, I will always pick sleep.
When are you doing the tag?
Roxana said
There is an age old trick mommies use to stop kids from sucking their thumbs – apply neem oil on the fingers. But since you followed up the biting skin comment with the fact that he eats everything, I suspect Mint will never even stop and wonder why his fingers taste bitter!
Pepper said
Oh I should have mentioned it more clearly in the post. He doesn’t bite his skin. The finger doesn’t go in the mouth. He tears it apart with his fingers only. I tried bandaging his fingers so that he has no access to that area, but he wouldn’t let me. So then what do I do?
snippetsnscribbles said
hahahha…good ones
He was arrested for speeding?? *shudders*
I should do this too. And like AHK, I might go 18 too
Pepper said
I would love to read all your 18 points. Please do it no?
VidBala said
Hey Pepper, You know what, even my husband likes mustard seeds. He used to pick those tiny-black-dots from his food and relish it like he is eating a sugar-bit. However I have not thought about adding a extra spoon of mustard while cooking for him. I din that last nite and had complete fun watching him eat that chutney with an added-spoon of mustard tadka!!
wowwy!!! thanks !!!!
The mentioned points are too niceee!!!!
Cheers and happy to see you blogging!!!
Pepper said
Adding the extra spoonful is totally worth it right? Watching them look for it, pick out and pop it in their mouths is such a joy

errr… its one thing to like mustard.. but taking the pain to pick and relish them from the dish? wow! we have a row over the shower issue here too:) mine takes barely 3 mins:| and i suffer from a serious inferiority complex when i see/hear/read about organized folks:) lucky you!
btw, you can come over for sambhaar + ghee;)
Pepper said
You think Mint is organised?? You’ve gotta be kidding. He spends hours organising things that don’t matter. His Gmail inbox will be highly organised, the bookshelf will be, but talk about the mess in the bedroom, the kitchen, the closets, it’s never ending
And you said I can come over for sambhaar and ghee????
That’s it. You did it. You’ve been warned. Don’t be surprised if I take this offer very seriously and come knocking on your door the next time I am in Chennai. You don’t know how much I was craving it after reading about it on Abi’s blog. I tried making some myself, but of course, I can’t wait to have the authentic version that you make
