A dash of Pepper…

…with a splash of Mint

Glimpses of junior Mint

Posted by Pepper on January 23, 2016

Every time I visit the in-law’s house in Chennai, I get to see a piece of Mint’s childhood. His mom has preserved so many things from his past. Of all the things she has safeguarded over the years, I love to see the toys! These are the toys that Mint and Oregano played with when they were little kids.

In this picture are some action figures, hot wheel cars and the Boggle Junior game (does anybody else remember that? I had the same game too!). What makes these toys so amazing is that they are almost 30 years old! I keep picturing my little boy playing with these hot wheels and my heart melts. Most of Mint’s toys were passed on to Oregano and he too has used them well.

These aren’t the only toys and games that have been preserved. My MIL has an entire cupboard dedicated to her kids’ toys. I love going through the collection, sappy sentimentalist that I am. And sometimes, for no real reason, I lay out little bits of their past and take pictures. These sights make my day.

M’s mom had similarly very carefully preserved all of his and the older siblings’ toys and doodads. On a trip to Bombay sometime I should do the same. Go thru them and take photos. She wanted V to have them even though she confessed some grief parting with them because she’d dusted them and kept them so nicely over the years. Mostly cars and mechanism sets and airplane modules, M told me. This post of yours brought a smile.

Have fun sweetie in Chennai. Say Hi to Oregano for me. He’s a Braveheart.

  2. An awesome collection. I am sure your lil one will treasure them all:)

  3. Such a sweet post! 🙂

There is definitely something about coming across the toys your other half played with in his/her childhood. It is understandable why your MIL would want to preserve them and why you could imagine your little boy playing with them too. I am the same sappy, sentimentalist type too. Just the other day, it gave me immense pleasure to see Bubboo playing with a rubber deer that I played with in childhood. Here’s my post about it: https://thegalnxtdoor.wordpress.com/2015/10/07/there-is/

Sadly, my mom didn’t preserve many of my toys – one thing I keep arguing about with her off and on. 😦

Ok, I should clarify. When I said I imagined my little boy playing with those, I meant Mint as a little boy, not my future son. My dreams are always made of a daughter. Son doesn’t come into my realm of imagination at all 😛

I totally know what you mean! My parents haven’t preserved any of my toys either. Feel so bad.
And that deer was so cute! Very glad Bubboo is getting to play with atleast one of your toys!
